Best Rowing Machine

While the general public may be aware of what a rowing machine is, they may be surprised, to find out just how many types of rowing machines there are. You can get water resistance rowing machines, air resistance rowing machines, and magnetic resistance rowing machines. They're all quite popular, and have their pros and cons, but the magnetic rowing machines offer some advantages and conveniences not found on other models. While it may be the least expensive type of rower, that's not the only reason, it has become the most popular selling type of rowing machine. All rowing machines offer superb cardio workouts, with minimal stress and impact to the joints and muscles. It also has the benefit, of not being just a cardio workout, but also a muscle toning workout as well. Rowing machines can be used to do curls, isolate your triceps, and work on your abdominals as well. That's a pretty extensive workout regiment.

One of the benefits of rowing, is that it works over 80% of the muscle groups of the body at the same time. Think about it. Your using your legs, your arms, your hips, and your core muscles. You can build muscle, and increase your cardio all at the same time. A daily workout that includes at least 30 minutes of rowing, is sure to have multiple benefits. Magnetic rowing machines don't take an excessive amount of space up at home, and can usually be folded into a compact size for storage. Either under a bed, or up against a wall.

If you have a passion for other sports, such as running, bicycling, tennis, triathalons or squash, then rowing is a great way to do some cross training. It allows your body to use different muscles for your primary sport, and create a little muscle confusion. That's a good thing. Swimmers also benefit, since it's another sport, that requires a high degree of total body muscle coordination.

Rowing Machine Benefits

Having a rowing machine at home, makes your workout routine simpler, as there's no need to be driving to the gym.  Another of the big advantages of the magnetic rowing machines, is that they are very silent.  That is as long as the machine is kept well maintained and lubricated, and the glides are of high quality.  The nice thing about a quiet rowing machine, is that you can watch TV at the same time, while not disturbing anyone else in the room.

If your the least bit goal oriented with your workouts, and I think most fitness types are, then you'll want to get a rower, with a good LCD display.  At the very least, it should display your stroke pace, distance, calories burned, and time.  You can go for fancier machines, that will connect wirelessly to a laptop, or heart rate monitor on your chest.  The heart rate monitor attachment, will help keep you in your target workout zone.  Connecting to your laptop, can allow you to participate in virtual races against the computer, or other rowers online.  It's all about making exercise fun after all.  Working out shouldn't be a chore.  If it is, you won't do it.

Do your homework when shopping for a magnetic rowing machine, and don't just buy the cheapest thing on the market.  You'll want something that stands up to the rigors of an intense workout for months and years.  Quite often, the cheap rowing machines are noisy, flimsy, and provide a jerky and frustrating workout.  While it's great to do your research online when looking at machines, but there's no substitute for getting a hands on experience before buying one.  That's the best way to see how smooth and quiet the machine is.
